FTP client for Linux

December 26th, 2006 by Leonid Mamchenkov

I am using FTP a lot recently. And I am missing a handy tool. For the time being I use a combination of command-line ftp and lftp, curses-based Midnight Commander (mc), browsers Konqueror and Mozilla Firefox. While each and every one of them does the job, I don’t feel too strong about any of them.

So, here is my question. Which FTP client for Linux (KDE desktop, if it matters) can you recommend? What are you guys using?

Features I am looking for are:

  • Profiles. I have to access a few dozens of accounts on a daily basis and I’d hate typing in usernames and passwords every time.
  • Keyboard operations. Although I work in graphical environment, keyboard is my primary input device. And I am way too used to file completions and F-operations in Midnight Commander.
  • Speed. As much as I love the nice looks, speed is the important factor for me. As I said above, I use a few dozens of accounts on a daily basis, and that can add up small fractions of time into significant amounts pretty fast.

It would be nice to hear pros and cons of every recommended client as well as get the URL, but if you are short on time, just drop off the name of the program that you recommend.
